Description
Turn your passion for diving into a professional career — become a certified dive educator.
The PADI Assistant Instructor Course is the next step in your diving journey, designed for divers who are ready to move beyond leadership and into teaching. This program builds on your Divemaster foundation, combining instructional development, real-world teaching practice, and mentorship from professional instructors who will prepare you for the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) rating.
Through hands-on experience, structured academics, and supervised teaching, you’ll develop the knowledge, confidence, and professionalism to begin teaching portions of PADI courses and assisting with student training both in confined and open water.
What You’ll Learn
1. Instructional Techniques & Teaching Methods
Learn how to effectively deliver knowledge development sessions, conduct confined water training, and assist in open water dives. You’ll gain insight into how PADI courses are structured, and how to communicate clearly, manage class logistics, and ensure student safety and comfort throughout their learning experience.
2. Assisting and Supervising Students
Work directly with real students under the guidance of an experienced Instructor. You’ll learn how to manage different learning paces, provide feedback, and create a supportive training environment—skills that are vital to your success as a future instructor.
3. Course and Dive Management
Develop advanced organizational skills to coordinate dive logistics, site setup, equipment preparation, and student flow. You’ll also refine your problem-solving and situational awareness, ensuring that you’re prepared for any challenges that arise underwater or in the classroom.
4. Professional-Level Dive Knowledge
Expand your theoretical understanding of diving physics, physiology, decompression theory, equipment systems, and PADI standards. You’ll also gain a deeper appreciation for risk management and the professional responsibilities that come with being an educator.
Course Structure
The PADI Assistant Instructor Course is typically conducted over 2 to 4 weeks, depending on your schedule and learning pace. It includes a blend of classroom sessions, confined-water workshops, open-water teaching practice, and one-on-one mentorship from a certified PADI Course Director or IDC Staff Instructor.
